Look good

Is The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer worth the hype?

If there’s one 2018 makeup trend that looks like it’s going to shine bright through 2019 (pardon the pun), it’s got to be the highlighter. From liquid to powder to cream to 3D to mineralized highlighters, the options are endless. And if you’re a makeup junkie, there’s no way you’ve missed The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer. We decided to put this baby to the test and here’s the verdict.

Packaging
The Mary-Lou Manizer is a pretty little thing to have in your vanity. Like most of The Balm’s makeup products, this one too features a character. The pop-art inspired paper packaging features a mug-shot of the namesake and opens into a compact metal box featuring the same kitschy design. It comes with a mirror, so that you can get your glow on the go!

Colour
This shade is a light beige-golden that is best-suited to most Indian skin tones ranging from medium fair to dusky. A very pale skin tone might need bronzer as the shade is likely to make the skin look washed out. However, the colour pay off is fairly good and one swipe works for that subtle glow. The colour is easily buildable, so if it’s a night out, you can go heavy-handed on the product for that hi-shine. The colour is so versatile that it can also be used as a base for your eyeshadow. Seen below is the pigment with two and one swipe, respectively.

Texture
The loveliest thing about this highlighter is how finely-milled the product is and how effortlessly it glides on to the skin. There’s no glitter (phew!), but a smooth, shimmery texture. Since this is a powder highlighter, it did require the skin to be prepped with a moisturizer and primer. However, note that if you’re looking for a high-strobe, 3D glow, perhaps a liquid, metallic highlighter is a better choice for you.

Longevity
It certainly did well in the longevity department as well—you’ll just need to make sure that your skin is well prepped. If you layer it on, you can rest assured that it’ll serve you well on a night out.

Verdict
At Rs.1899 for 8.5 gms, this highlighter certainly doesn’t come cheap. However, it definitely scores with its colour and texture. So, if you are specifically looking for a good quality powder highlighter, this one is surely worth investing in.
