Summer may not necessarily be as glorious as your newsfeed may have you believe. While your Instagram throws up images of sun-kissed tans and summer getaways, you’re wondering how to deal with limp, frizzy and dry hair. Well, fret not, because help is at hand. We spoke to the folks at Advanced Hair Studio about how to keep your hair summer ready!
With the mercury rising, your skin isn’t the only thing that needs your TLC. Your locks also need to be protected from the harsh summer heat. A greasy scalp and lifeless hair are some of the problems you’re likely to deal with. Keep these tips in mind to breeze through the season!
You diligently apply your sunscreen on your face everyday. So, why should you ignore your hair? Covering up your hair makes all the difference when you step out of the house. Dust and pollution damage your hair, making it look lifeless. Use a scarf or hat to save your hair from environmental damage.
Watch that hair wash!
The sweat and grease tend to make us wash our hair more often than is required. However, shampooing too often leads to a dry scalp and may cause your hair to lose its natural oils and moisture.
Air drying works best!
During summer, it’s best to steer clear of hair dryers or styling products since the weather is already adding to your hair’s frizz and dryness. After a wash, allow your hair to dry naturally in order to maintain its health and shine.
Condition, condition, condition!
The heat renders your hair dry and lifeless. Conditioning it will help protect it from the UV rays and also tone down the frizz. Try this hair pack at home: Mix together thick curd, one banana, olive oil and good ol’ methi or fenugreek seeds (soaked overnight). Blend these together to get a smooth consistency. Apply on your hair and wash off after half an hour and Voila! Hair spa!
Eat right and stay hydrated
Ultimately, you are a reflection of what you eat, so eating right is crucial for the health of your hair. Stock up on fruits and vegetables with high water content. Melons and citrus fruits are great for summer. Vegetables in all colours are important to boost the health of your hair. Lastly, drinking plenty of water will keep your hair hydrated and shiny from root to tip.
